Freecycle -- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!

Have stuff cluttering your house that you want to give away? Do you need stuff, but don't want to pay a cent? Join the The Freecycle Network. The Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns.

It's easy! All you have to do is say what you have to offer and people will reply if they want it. Pick someone to give it to and arrange a time and place for it to be picked up. Most of the time I leave the item on my doorstep and it disappears. I understand that some people wouldn't be comfortable with this for safety reasons, but I have had good experiences so far. I've given away a printer, lava rocks, stone pavers, books, wrapping paper and a bunch of other stuff that was collecting dust. This weekend I picked up my first bit of stuff -- pregnancy and child rearing books (which is totally amusing in and of itself)!

The Freecycle Network was started in May 2003 to promote waste reduction in Tucson's downtown and help save desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. The Network provides individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to "recycle" unwanted items.

One person's trash can truly be another's treasure! Join the fun of "giving away instead of throwing away" and find a local chapter near you!
